“In Jackson Heights” Trailer

Director: Frederick Wiseman

Synopsis: In this Brooklyn community of over a hundred spoken languages and diverse cultures, normal people struggle with adapting to social change while retaining their own identity.

Notes: If you know anything about documentaries, you should be familiar with Frederick Wiseman. He’s had an extensive career of filmmaking, creating a name for himself by adopting the “fly-on-the-wall” technique and unveiling the intricacies and emotional weight of some of the world’s most fascinating institutions, such as welfare offices, museums, college universities, and most infamously the Massachusetts Correctional Institution Bridgewater from “Titicut Follies.” Peering into the entire neighborhood of Jackson Heights is no doubt more ambitious than the isolated establishments or buildings of his previous works, and will likely allow a broader perspective on social classes and the American Dream.
