Director: Terrence Malick
Starring: Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Teresa Palmer
Synopsis: Feeling imprisoned by the Hollywood system, a screenwriter in Los Angeles questions his environment and seeks stimulation in his dispair.
Notes: This is right up Malick’s alleyway. I can imagine no other filmmaker more qualified to question and comment on the “industry” of Hollywood. Despite Malick’s history with big-name actors and productions, his visions have always sought a more truthful meaning to life. The glamour and modern glitz of Los Angeles poses a brilliant location for Malick to dissect for an existential crisis so prominent in his characters.
